The first thing the boys HAD to do was get their faces painted. Jacks was talking about the dragon he was going to get (same as last year) for days beforehand. Cody chose a snake (last year he would have NOTHING to do with anyone touching him) and sat very still and serious for the lady. I even had a little something done. :)
Jacks and Cody both did the joust, riding down a small slope on a little wooden horse. Cody chose to just enjoy the ride, while Jacks actually held the wooden pole and tried to poke it through a ring...and he did it!!
Then we headed to the Pirate Ship swing, which Jackson, Gramma and Daddy rode last year. I was really surprised that Cody wanted to try it this time, and though he held on so tightly his knuckles turned white and looked mostly terrified, he said he liked it. :)
The boys' favorite activity today was the bungee trampoline (what this has to do with the Renaissance, I have no idea). When we walked up to it, there were teenagers on there, bouncing in these special harnesses way up in the air and doing flips. I knew Jacks would be all over it because he'd done it 2 summers ago on the top of Vail mountain and loved it. But I figured Cody would balk. Nope. He wanted to try, too. They both had such a blast. Again, Cody looked scared out of his mind but when I'd ask if he wanted to stop, he'd say no. And just when I'd think he was about to puke, he'd smile! They both tried it 2 times, they loved it so much.
We had a really great time. I hope we're able to find something similar up in the DC area, because it's been so fun visiting this RenFest every year.
